The Essentials of Digital Media Management short course hosted by the Sol Plaatje Institute for Media Leadership is currently being held at the School of Journalism and Media Studies, Rhodes University.

From this course, the participants will gain insights and practical skills on digital media tools and platforms that will equip them to make direct interventions in their respective positions.

The participants include representatives from The Eastern Cape Liquor Board, Rhodes University Community Engagement, Rhodes University Library, North-West University, Rhodes Restoration Research Group, Institute of the Study of the Englishes.

The trainers on this course are Steve Kromberg and Michael Salzwedel from Social Weaver

The course will focus on the following aspects over the five days:

  • Digital media landscape
  • Big data and analytics 
  • Multimedia
  • Media law, ethics and credibility
  • Verification and fighting misinformation 
  • How to flourish on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and other platforms
  • Free tools 
  • Email newsletter management 
  • Creating compelling content 
  • Content creation using mobile devices 

The short course is accredited internally through Rhodes University's Centre for Higher Education Research and Learning (CHERTL). 

The course will run until 28 February 2020.
