Manual setup instructions

We recommend using geteduroam or eduroam CAT for the easiest and most secure setup, but if you don't have mobile Internet access on your device to download geteduroam, you can configure the settings manually as follows.

Android

Android devices must be set up using geteduroam or eduroam CAT.  Students may visit the helpdesk on level 1 of the Library, where there is a special Wi-Fi network which allows installation of those apps.  Staff may visit the I&TS service desk on the middle floor of the Struben Building.  Alternatively, please make use of a Wi-Fi network at home or elsewhere to install geteduroam or eduroam CAT.

Windows 10

  • Click the Wi-Fi icon in the lower right of the screen.
  • Select eduroam from the list of Wi-Fi networks and click Connect.
  • Enter your username and password, then click OK.  For students, your username will be in the format g00a1234@wf.ru.ac.za; for staff, s0100234@wf.ru.ac.za or exml001@wf.ru.ac.za.
  • When asked if you want to continue connecting, click Show certificate details.
  • Check that the Server thumbprint is:
    • 00 F1 31 78 33 BF D6 20 5B 72 81 76 C4 D3 CB 98 A8 A2 46 84
  • If it matches that, click Connect.
  • If it does not match, it is not safe to connect.  Click Cancel and notify the I&TS Division.

Apple iPhone and iPad

iOS/iPadOS 12 or newer is required.

  • Open Settings from the home screen.
  • Tap Wi-Fi then select eduroam.
  • Enter your username and password, then tap Join.  For students, your username will be in the format g00a1234@wf.ru.ac.za; for staff, s0100234@wf.ru.ac.za or exml001@wf.ru.ac.za.
  • When asked to accept the certificate, tap More Details.  Scroll down to the Fingerprint SHA-256 and check that it is:
    • e9 19 53 44 d4 65 02 bc 1d 3a d9 ad b8 56 4d 3c c7 7b 29 38 10 77 ec b4 5c 2b e2 f9 ca cc 75 fd
