Janeke Thumbran is a lecturer in the History Department. Her research interests include the history of universities in South Africa and the ways in which university disciplines have actively participated in the making of apartheid’s racial categories. Dr. Thumbran is particularly interested in the history of the design disciplines in South Africa and is also currently working on a postdoctoral project that examines the design of PUTCO busses and transportation networks between Pretoria and the former Bantustan of KwaNdebele.
