Jako Bezuidenhout is the History 1 tutor co-ordinator and a PhD Candidate in the Department. His dissertation is a social and legal history of an ongoing land claim in Salem. This claim is significant and has already set a legal precedent in the courts in dealing with claims of commonage in South Africa. Therefore, this research is important in understanding the legal and historical discourses followed by the courts in assessing land claims in South Africa. Interests include land claims, South African military history, dispossession history, Afrikaner history and coloured identity. Jako has also been a first year tutor from 2014-2016 and second year tutor from 2017-2018.
