Sound Technology 1

This course is a first year level credit in the Faculty of Humanities. It runs for one year and aims to provide a broad training in Sound Technology, incorporating both studio and live recording techniques, utilising both the analogue and digital protocols, and the installation and operation of public address equipment. Because sound engineers work in a variety of contexts, it is important in this training to cover both analogue and digital techniques. For example, live and theatre sound engineers typically deal with analogue systems while studio engineers are increasingly orientated towards digital systems.  

The course comprises of three lectures and two tutorials per week. Tutorials are taken by the lecturer and five tutors.

Sound Technology 2

This course is a HEQSF level 6 level credit in the Faculty of Humanities. It runs for one year and aims to provide a more in depth training for students who have successfully completed Sound Technology 1. Building on the first year course, Sound Technology 2 allows students to gain more depth in theoretical understandings and provides more opportunities to apply theory to practical applications. The course comprises three lectures and two tutorials per week. Tutorials are taken by the lecturer and one tutor. 

Assumptions of prior learning: Students are expected to have successfully completed Sound Technology
