The Essentials of People Management short course will run at the SPI on the following dates: 30 May - 3 June 2016, 21 October - 4 November 2016

The course is intended for middle managers from print, broadcast and online enterprises to invest a week of their time taking a holistic look at the challenges of leading and managing diverse groups of people in a rapidly changing industry.

The course provides participants with insights and explore ways of engaging with their organisations to facilitate improved people management practices.

The course covers modules such as the Introduction to Organisations; the Role of the Manager; Human Resources Management Functions; Policy Design; Personal Strengths; South Africa’s labour legislation (depending on whether there are participants from other African countries, this module is tweaked to include elements of labour legislation from selected African countries); Human Resource Planning and Staffing; Managing Diverse Employees and Teams; Retention and Motivation of Staff; Handling of Performance Management, Grievances and Discipline; and Managing Change.
