Benny Gondwe is nearing the completion of his first semester at Rhodes University, and if all goes according to plan it will also be his last semester.

The Rhodes Hockey First XI completed their first Varsity Cup hockey tournament over the weekend ending 18 May.

RHODES University cruised past the Border Bulldogs Academy with a 31-10 win at the University of Fort Hare Alice campus on Friday.

Gun shots could be heard from the Rhodes University Rifle Range on Saturday, as the Eastern Province Small-Bore Rifle Championships took off with a bang.

Fort Hare’s 1st XV defeated Rhodes University 1sts 15-14 in a nail-biting victory on Rhodes’s Great Field on Friday 25 April.

Many local karateka won gold medals at the Shotokan Karate Tournament held at Settlers Monument on Saturday 26 April for local and clubs from around the province.The annual Shotokan Tournament saw an attendance of about 150 students this year with a wide range of age groups, male and female karateka taking part.

Dave Martin of the Rhodes University Archery Club has been chosen to represent South Africa at the World Para Archery Championships in Bangkok, Thailand, from 1 to 7 November.

History was made on 27 September 2014 when Rhodes representatives, Adv. Sue Smailes (Director: Special Project in the VC’s Office), Prof. Rod Walker (Chairman of Sports Council), and Mr Mandla Gagayi (Head of Sport) flew to Cape Town, where they met the board of Varsity Sports at UCT for a brief introduction and presentation by Francois Pienaar.
