Summary:

The increase in groundwater demand for various human activities and the need for systematic management of this resource are my source of motivation. Indeed, few people know how much groundwater is widely and heavily used throughout the world, both in rural and urban areas, in arid and humid regions. Therefore, the main features of groundwater systems are poorly known or even misunderstood while it is quite valuable in terms of water supply as rivers, lakes and reservoirs and thus deserves to be better known for adequate management and protection.

Research:

My current research project is on ‘Characterisation of Aquifer Potential in Owerri, Southeastern Nigeria using sieve Analysis, pumping test data and Dar Zarrouk parameters’.

In recent decades, Owerri has been subject to rapid urbanisation, industrialisation and intense agriculture. This has led on the one hand to the ever-increasing water demand and on the other hand to continuous contamination of surface waters and shallow aquifers due to the porous nature of overlaying geological materials.

The exploitation of deeper aquifer is an adequate alternative to supplement the surface water in supplying all needs and also to access the clean or less contaminated water.

It is therefore important to understand the deeper aquifer potential in the area: by identifying the boundaries, estimating the hydraulic properties and determining the transmitivity, the hydraulic conductivity, the storativity and the type of the rock and.

For this purpose, Aquifer Performance Test (APT), Sieve Analysis and Dar Zarrouk parameters will be used as methods.

Previously, I worked on a research project titled ‘Planning a detailed geophysical survey in the Lokoro sub-basin: case of 2D seismic" Democratic Republic of Congo.
