Kim Barker started out her career with a BA (Speech and Hearing Therapy) from Wits University and practised in the field for two years before completing an MPhil (English and Applied Linguistics) at Cambridge. Her focus then shifted to research into the accessibility of texts for English Second Language learners and the development of educational materials. Life events guided a later shift into theological studies which culminated with an MTh specialising in Pastoral Therapy. Kim has divided her time between writing, facilitation and training and therapy ever since. She is now working towards a PhD in Psychology at Rhodes University, researching constructions of meaning and ‘real effects’ of participation in an anti-rape protest for survivors of sexual violence.
