It is with great sadness that the Department of Statistics shares the tragic news of the untimely passing of one of our students, Mr Zanokhanyo Mazeka (9 March 2019).

A memorial service was held on Wednesday the 20th of March at Rhodes University in the Chapel of St. Mary and all the Angels. His funeral was held on the 23rd of March 2019 in Lusikisiki. The department would like to thank the SRC, Student Affairs Division, the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Karen Ellery and his classmates for their assistance in transporting his friends to the funeral service.

Zano was a resident of Hilltop House 7 in Hilltop Hall at Rhodes University. He was in third year, reading towards a triple major Bachelor of Science. His majors were Mathematical Statistics, Mathematics (Pure) and Mathematics (Applied). Zano's determination and drive were key components to his academic success. The staff of the department miss the "Big Friendly Giant" who was always well prepared for lectures and tutorials, always smiling and passionate about his studies. We extend our sincerest condolences to his family, loved ones and friends.
