The Masters Degree in Mathematical Statistics

Suitably qualified students are encouraged to proceed to research degrees under the direction of the staff of the Department. The Master’s degree may be taken by thesis (100%), or by a combination of examinations (50%) (3 modules) and a thesis (50%), as directed by the Head of the Department. The modules are listed under the Honours course information. Students may also be required to take an oral examination.

Before your application to read towards a Masters can be considered we require a draft research note that outlines your area of interest. Based on this an appropriate supervisor will be identified and they will work with you to present an appropriate research note that is submitted for consideration by faculty for admission to read towards the degree.

Postgraduate Funding

Information with regard to student funding and financial aid can be found on the postgradiate funding opportunities web page. This page provides prospective postgraduate students with further information, application forms and the contact details of the Rhodes Univeristy Postgraduate Financial Aid Administrator, Mr John Gillam.

Tutors and Graduate Assistants

It is hoped that postgraduate students will be appointed as tutors or graduate assistants in the Department of Statistics.  These students provide academic support and development to undergraduate students in the Department of Statistics for a certain number of hours per week.
