Sioux has worked in the field of academic development since 1992 when she began as an English Second Language lecturer at Mangosuthu Technikon. She then worked for fourteen years at the Durban University of Technikon where she became Director for the Centre for Higher Education Development which was responsible for Foundation Programmes, entrance testing, student development, staff development, curriculum development, and online learning. She then worked in the Centre for Higher Education Studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal where she taught on the coursework Masters in higher education and supervised at Masters and Doctoral level. She joined CHERTL at Rhodes University to develop the doctoral programme in higher education studies. The demands to theorise and improve the higher education sector have resulted in an increasing need for PhDs in this area. The doctoral programme combines excellent traditional supervision with doctoral weeks, guest seminars, and an online environment to ensure that students undertake their research within an engaged community of scholars. Sioux is now the Director of the Centre for Postgraduate Studies at Rhodes University where she provides support and development opportunities for postgraduate scholars and supervisors across the institution. She continues to supervise in the CHERTL programme and has a particular interest in academic literacies and disciplinary differences, institutional differentiation, and postgraduate education.
