The African Water Resource Mobility Network (AWaRMN) is a programme of the Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme which aims to promote cooperation between higher education institutions (HEIs) and support mobility in Africa. The overall objective of the scheme was to enhance human capital development in Africa, while strengthening intra-African cooperation in higher education as called for by Agenda 2063. The specific objectives of the Intra-Africa Africa Mobility Scheme were to

  • increase the employability of students
  • improve the quality of higher education in Africa and its relevance to Africa's development vision
  • strengthen the modernisation and internationalisation of African higher education institutions
  • promote the development of an African higher education and research space

AWaRMN was established with the aim to address the most pertinent water-related needs on the African continent.

The objectives of AWaRMN are:

  • to increase the number of highly qualified and competent (MSc and PhD) graduates in the field of water resources in Africa
  • to build and sustain teaching and research capabilities among partner institutions
  • to design and implement research programmes based on collaboration and cooperation 
  • to facilitate student and staff mobility to promote multiculturalism and internationalisation among African HEIs
  • to contribute to innovation and water technologies that advance social-economic development in Africa
  • to enhance professional career development and employability of graduates
