Respected mathematician Sizwe Mabizela has been appointed vice-chancellor of Rhodes University. Mabizela, from the National Research Foundation, takes over on November 1 from Saleem Badat, who has joined the US Mellon Foundation, said Vuyo Kahla, who chairs Rhodes's council.
