Scifest 2018

Date Released: Tue, 20 March 2018 10:50 +0200

This year again saw the Chemistry Department get involved in Scifest and in Science Education, as it has done for many years.

Over 200 learners attended curriculum- based workshops in titrations and identification of Organic Functional groups, and others used kitchen ingredients in experiments to work out whether the reactions are exothermic or endothermic. These workshops fill a great need for teachers and learners, especially those who do not have laboratory facilities at their schools.

Mr Andre Adriaan, out well-experienced glassblower did glass-blowing demonstrations to approx. 70 people, who enjoyed to see what can be done with such a fragile but very useful and versatile material.

Thanks goes to all who made this happen – the technical and academic staff as well as the student volunteers. All of this was done voluntarily, in addition to all the other expectations a day in academia requires.
