Dearest Lily

Firstly welcome to Lilian Britten House which is a house filled with some of the most inspiring women I have ever encountered. I know you might be feeling overwhelmed, excited or awkward but I promise you will learn so much about yourself over your time in the house of sisters. Get ready to meet your sisters around you who will be your pillars of strength. Take time to learn more about the rich, vast historical town of Makhanda and about Rhodes University, participate in events, socialise and I promise, this will make your experience so much better. Lilies symbolise amiability, purity, love, femininity, unity, humility and devotion which are all the characteristics of the lovely ladies of the Lilian Britten House.

Our hall, St Mary’s Dining Hall is one of the few females only dining halls and believe me when I say you are in for an amazing time here. Never be afraid to reach out to any of your sisters here because everyone is more than willing to help.

Though we will always have fun, you need to be ready for a few things. Be ready for an easy transition into your university career. Be ready for busy schedules. Be ready for memories you will cherish forever. Be ready to find mentors, support systems, and your best friends for life. I could not be prouder to call you a new member of our house. I cannot wait to see what great things you do for this chapter, and I cannot wait for you to fall just as in love with this sisterhood as I am.
