The Vice-Chancellor of Rhodes University recently hosted students who had published papers or received awards at a special function.  Pictured here(from left to right) are Nicola Jearey-Graham (PhD student in the CSSR), Dr Sizwe Mabizela (VC), Yanela Ndabula (PhD student in the CSSR), Jabulile Mavuso (PhD student in the CSSR), and Catriona Macleod (CSSR SARChI Chair). Nicola, Yanela and Jabu were congratulated for the following achievements:

Yanela Ndabula won the Sexuality and Gender Division/Feminism and Psychology Student Presentation Award at the 1st Pan African Psychology Union conference held in Durban in September. Her presentation was on her master's thesis: Sistering and sexual socialisation: A psychosocial study of Xhosa women's 'sex and reproduction talk' with their sisters.

 

Jabulile Mary Jane Jace Mavuso  had an article published in a peer reviewed journal: Chiweshe, M., Mavuso, J., & Macleod, C. (2017). Reproductive justice in context: South African and Zimbabwean women's narratives of their abortion decision. Feminism & Psychology, 27(2), 203-224.

Nicola Jearey-Graham also had an article published in a peer-reviewed journal: Jearey-Graham, N. & Macleod (2017): Gender, dialogue and discursive psychology: a pilot sexuality intervention with South African High-School learners, Sex Education, DOI: 10.1080/14681811.2017.1320983
