Call for 2014 Postgraduate Applications

Postdoctoral Research Fellowships at the Allan Gray Centre for Leadership Ethics (AGCLE)

These fellowships will initially be granted for one year, renewable for a second year.

Postdoctoral Fellowships are on offer in 2014.

The fellowships will be of interest to you if you:

  1. have completed a Ph.D. and have a demonstrable interest in ethics and psychology (philosophical, educational or social). The doctoral degree must have been awarded in the last five years.
  2. are keen on applying philosophical and psychological insights to concrete projects which aim at promoting leadership, understood as effective ethical agency,
  3. have a promising research record.

How to apply: send a copy of your CV, transcript, Ph.D. examiner reports, a writing sample and a statement of no more than 1000 words expressing in what ways you envisage contributing to the life of the AGCLE to AGCLE@ru.ac.za by 4th of November 2013.

  1. have completed a Ph.D. within the last five years and have a demonstrable interest in the interrelationship between theoretical ethics and ethical action (see AGCLE statement of aims)
  2. are keen on philosophically informed transformative engagements in the educational sector (secondary and tertiary), public or private sectors,
  3. have a promising research record.

Master of Arts in Creative Writing

Rhodes University prides itself on its high percentage of postgraduate students. At the 2013 graduation ceremony, 41% of all graduates were awarded postgraduate degrees.

Applications are invited for an MA Degree in Creative Writing. Applicants may opt for a one year full time or two year part time programme. The course consists of 16 weeks of intensive coursework taught by 12 lecturers, all practicing writers. A supervised book-length creative thesis is written in English, isiXhosa or Afrikaans.

General Call for Postgraduate Applications: Humanities

Rhodes University prides itself on its high percentage of postgraduate students. At the 2013 graduation ceremony, 41% of all graduates were awarded postgraduate degrees. Rhodes also celebrated a new University record of 63 PhDs – an outstanding achievement for the smallest university in the country.

A total of 58% of Rhodes academics have Doctorates, one of the highest percentages for a single University in South Africa.

The Humanities Faculty, the largest Faculty at Rhodes, emphasises an education that promotes the development of a well-rounded and critical graduate with the ability to play a meaningful role in society.
