Rhodes Drama students specialising in Physical Performance, Contemporary Performance, Choreography and the new Visual Theatre will showcase their original theatre pieces in a series of performances that have been described as inspiring, intelligent, disturbing and delightful.

For this year's Theatre in Motion programme, Honours choreographers draw from a range of physical theatre and dance styles.

Since April this year, third-year students have been exploring an approach to theatre still in its infancy in SA theatre – mask work.

From early explorations, the work has progressed to animating full character masks, where the performer has to find the truthful inner monologue, rhythms, tensions, and mannerisms to bring a mask to life.

The Honours physical performance class have put together an exciting theatre experience, melding acting, dance and play.

For this year’s Theatre in Motion, Thalia Laric presents her final Masters Examination practical, An Intimate Performance , which has a very limited audience.

Masters Students Pumelela Nqelenga, Liezl De Kock (Contemporary performance) and Hannah Lax (Directing) present previews of what will eventually be their final examinable works in 2014.

Theatre in Motion ‘13 runs from Wednesday 23 to Saturday 26 October in the Box Theatre and Main Theatre at Rhodes University Drama Department.
