Msengana to serenade Bay fans

Popular radio personality and Idols judge Unathi Msengana, who is launching her live DVD in Port Elizabeth next week, is a modernday African renaissance woman.

Born and raised in the Eastern Cape, musician Msengana will venture into a new era as she releases An Intimate Night with Unathi. The Metro FM DJ will perform with her 10-piece band at the Boardwalk Casino on Friday July 19, and will also feature her music director and fellow musician Kabomo.

The former Rhodes University student spent more than a year working on her DVD, which is shot on 12 HD cameras and includes songs from all her albums, including her latest album, With Love.

One of her proudest achievements was writing her song Sgubhu which was on the soundtrack for the Oscar-winning movie, Tsotsi. At the show, which starts at 7pm, the audience will be treated to an edited three-minute version of An Intimate Night with Unathi. Tickets are R130 each and are available at Computicket.

Boardwalk spokeswoman Caley Phillips said ticket sales for Msengana's show were going quite well. "We'll have a clear indication next week though as there is still more than a week before the show. We've had a lot of interest from as far as Grahamstown and East London from people who want to attend the show, which is great," she said.

How you can win tickets THE Herald is giving away 50 double tickets valued at R130 each for the show. See Page 9 for the competition details.
