The team came together through the Rhode University submission to Global University Climate Forum (GUCF) project, a Yale University initiative. The project commenced in 2020, led by Ms Putuma Balintulo in her capacity as the Environmental Representative for Rhodes University for the 2020 year. It has since evolved to a legacy project of SRC Environmental Representatives with Ms Milca Taku Matariro joining the project in 2021 in her capacity as Environmental Representative for 2021.

Other members of the team include Dr Sukh Mantel, from the Institute of Water Research, as the project mentor, and Ms Carlene Royle from the Environmental Learning Research Centre at Rhodes University.

Dr Luke Metelerkamp has contributed with creative oversight to the project.

The project comprises of two components:
1. Application to re-establish the recycling collections on campus
2. Develop an E-hub focussed to regenerative sustainability ideation, that challenges linear mindsets to inspire for innovative circular economy promise
