3rd Year Geography Field Trip to Woody Cape.

Date Released: Wed, 2 May 2018 15:11 +0200

The Geography 301 field trip was at Woody Cape over the weekend 21-22 April, 2018. The objective of the trip was to collect data to explain the present structure of the beach at Woody Cape and to seek evidence of human artifacts and describe the livelihoods of the people living along the coastline before modern occupation. The data collected involved topographic surveying, sampling sand and pebbles, and analysing data to interpret the environmental history and current structure of the beach. Shell fragments, mammal bones, pottery and tools were amongst the many artifacts found, which also included ochre that was used for adornment. Most students thoroughly enjoyed the trip and felt they learned a lot.
