New family law reading group established

Retired Constitutional Court Judge Sachs once commented that family law is ‘a paradise’ for researchers, but ‘for judges a purgatory.’ (see Eekelaar and Nhlapo (eds) The Changing Family: Family Forms and Family Law (1998) at xi). Following his advice (!), three enthusiastic Rhodes law students (Ben Rule, Palmira Pio and Mike Tsele) are currently working on research papers in family law with Mrs Helen Kruuse. Meeting once a month, the group has already hosted two visitors from Macquarrie University (Denise Meyerson and Therese McDermott) who spent an hour with them discussing their ideas. The publishing house, Juta, also kindly donated their latest book on family law, being Jackie Heaton’s The Law of Divorce and Dissolution of Life Partnerships in South Africa (2014) to each of the students.
