Second-generation Rhodes University alumnus and seasoned investment banker and philanthropist Justine Mannering has joined the Rhodes University USA Trust Board and will work with the Board to oversee the fundraising activities for the landmark RU120 campaign in North America.

However, Professor Tshidi Mohapeloa, from the Rhodes Business School exemplifies these traits so steadfastly, she earned a prestigious award for her unwavering service as the Deputy Chairperson of the Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) Community of Practice for Teaching and Learning. This accolade was presented to her at the EDHE Intervarsity Studentpreneur finals in Johannesburg late last year.

Each year, Rhodes University proudly recognises its outstanding alumni who have excelled in their respective fields and significantly impacted society. The recipients of the Distinguished Alumni Award 2023, chosen by the Old Rhodian Union selection committee, are exemplary individuals who embody the values of Rhodes University: excellence, leadership, and service.

Founded in 1911 by Sir George Cory and Professor Cullen Bowles, the Old Rhodian Union (ORU) administers bursaries for children of Old Rhodians and current University staff members. This year, the Union granted 31 bursaries to the value of R325 000.

Rhodes University alumna and former Student Recruitment Officer, Tulisa Mondliwa, has received government recognition and a boost for her Afrikare beauty product business. The Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR) recently held awards for top-performing women farmers in the Sarah Baartman district.
