Lisa MacLeod is Head of Digital at Tiso Blackstar Group, publisher of eight newspapers and 18 websites in South Africa. MacLeod is a Rhodes graduate, and completed a BA (Journalism), and BA Honours in Anthropology in 1994. She has worked in a number of different roles for the Daily Dispatch, and Business Day in South Africa, and spent 12 years at the Financial Times in London where she was Managing Editor and Head of Operations for FT.Com, and was GM of Digital for Media24 before joining Tiso Blackstar in 2015.
MacLeod has served on the board of the Rhodes UK Trust, is a long-standing member of the World Editors' Forum Board, and in June 2018 was elected the first ever female vice-president of the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers.
She advises students to choose a field that they love. She says of her own career: “I love the media industry, and have loved being a part of the historic change we have seen over the past twenty years, especially with the move from print to digital. So my job is also my hobby and my passion - and that means I give it my all."
