Silvanus Welcome has been appointed as the Director of Institutional Advancement at Walter Sisulu University. His passion for his career started in 2009 when he was a student leader at Rhodes University and volunteered to assist in campus initiatives organised by the Department of Development and Alumni. He has been professionally active as an Advancement Practitioner since 2013.
Silvanus graduated from Rhodes University with a Bachelor of Social Science (Law) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Enterprise Management. He also completed a Certificate in Advancement and Resource Mobilisation at Inyathelo, which was offered by Rhodes University. Silvanus is a MBA candidate at the North-West University.
At only 29 years of age, Silvanus Welcome is the youngest Director of Institutional Advancement in the higher-education sector. He believes that there is still much room for growth, with age being on his side.
He is married to Veronique and the couple currently resides in East London with their eight-month-old baby girl. He is contemplating a book on fundraising within the African context.
