Rhodes Alumni at the World Bank

One of the latest recruits at The World Bank is an Alumna of Rhodes University and the Environmental Science Department.  Mercedes Stickler (2008) has just joined the Bank and Shafick Hoosein (2001) has been assigned as her mentor in the Environmental and Natural Resources Global Practice.  What a pleasant surprise for Shafick to have a fellow Rhodes graduate at the Bank and moreover in the same Global Practice.  Mercedes is mapped to the South Asia Region, whilst Shafick has completed his rotation to the Latin Americana and Caribbean Region (had to learn Spanish in a year) and starts his rotation to the Middle East and North Africa Region (has to now learn Arabic).  Shafick also cross-supports to the South Asia Region where Mercedes and he will be part of the same project team for a regional Bank project in Pakistan, Bangladesh and India.
