Rhodes University’s MA in CREATIVE WRITING invites you to participate in an online lecture by our Mellon Scholar-in-residence, MARC ANTHONY RICHARDSON.

In innovative fiction writing, it is important to transcend one's personal reading and writing preferences, one's opinions, in order to be apprenticed by divergent film and literature—aesthetic achievements, visceral, poetic, avant-garde works centred around objective reality, subjective life, ecstatic confession and play! The works of art that tend to affect us deeply are the ones that might have wearied us, challenged us, or even greatly disturbed us. But in time, upon further reflection, we find them rather informative—and even illuminating: our diverse experiences require divergent formats! In this lecture, I will expand on these themes, and will share my own experience in self-exploration and "unselving," which is to die every day to oneself.
