On the 7th of February we had our hall reception. Parents were welcomed to Drostdy by our Hall Senior Student, Nk Mtonga, our interim SRC Hall Representative and Graham Sub-Warden, Dylan Bouchier, as well as our Hall Warden, Catherine Deiner. Parents were assured that they made the right choice by sending their kids to Rhodes University. The parents and first years were eager to ask questions about our hall and residences by engaging with the Hall and House committees.
The First Years amazing race was on Saturday the 13th of February. Allan Gray, Graham and Prince Alfred participated in the race organised by the SRC. Allan Gray came third overall in the race.
As an alternative to the amazing race on Saturday, first years could go do community engagement, where they were taken off campus to see the greater Grahamstown and meet with the chosen ECD (Early Childhood Development) School partner for our Hall.
After long nights of singing lessons and dance lessons the first years of Prince Alfred along with some House Comm members set out to embark on a journey in pursuit of winning a television set for their Res. The girls were very enthusiastic and keen for this day. Non-participating students came in their numbers in support of their peers. All in all it was a very successful gathering :)

‘’Who has the claim to win the throne, talent show’’
On the 7th of May we participated in a talent show against Allan Webb hall. The talent show was planned by our Hall Senior Student, NK Mtonga, along with the Hall Senior Student from Allan Webb. It goes without say that the event was a success as Drostdy came back with the Trophy, against all odds. Drostdy only had a few participants, 4 to be exact, and Allan Webb Hall came out in numbers, but our Talent was extraordinary and we ended up with an overall of +- 60%. Well done to all the participants.

This year our hall senior student introduced inter-res debates and the first one was between Allan Gray and Prince Alfred. The question posed was “ has the University done enough to create an environment that speaks to the class differences of its students?” Prince Alfred house won the first debate.
The Hall hosted the second hall debate on the 28 July, and this time the topic was, "The Politically Defined Black People in South Africa Cannot be Racist”. The turnout at the debate was amazing with not only students from our dining hall but from other dining halls as well and some postgraduate students also came to the event. Graham house won the debate putting them in the lead for res of the year.
